Are Awnings Waterproof?
Most awnings are weather-resistant and will withstand light showers, while certain awning types are designed to be waterproof and can help to protect your patio area. Referred to as pergola awnings, or waterproof awnings, they protect against high winds and heavy rainfall, and give you more time to enjoy your patio or balcony area.
The awning fabric has it’s own unique properties, which increase longevity, and provide added protection against rain, light and changes in temperature. This means you continue to enjoy your awning without the risk of it becoming damaged.
Waterproof awnings are often fitted with two front posts, helping to stabilise the awning and making it ideal for combatting unreliable British weather. The slender design of each post complements the design of the cassette, creating an elegant feature which can be used all year round.
Unlike a retractable awning, waterproof awnings will also prevent the ‘pooling’ of water in the awning fabric, using unique design features to get rid of excess rain water. The Markilux Pergola 110 / 210 is a popular example of a waterproof awning with an adjustable front support so that you can manually drain water, which is particularly useful after a heavy rainstorm. So whether you’ve popped to the shops, or left for a long weekend away, your awning can remain extended without the risk of damage.
