Here at Roché, we’re selling more patio awnings than ever before, so we recognise first-hand that the outdoor living trend is thriving and many families are embracing their garden spaces with enthusiasm. After all, nothing beats a comfortable chair in a relaxing, private outdoor space which provides an escape from the stresses of daily life. The new 2016 Houzz UK Landscaping Trends Survey has backed up our observations with some interesting facts and figures.

They based their results on responses from 1,000 UK homeowners who had recently completed an outdoor project or were currently planning one.

It showed that more than a third of Brits spent at least 6 hours in the garden, valuing it for entertaining (50%), dining (24%) and cooking (20%).

It makes sense, then, that when undertaking an outdoor project, 59% of homeowners prioritise outdoor living over all other design aspects. People are buying outdoor furniture (58%), barbecues (40%), fire pits (28%) and patio heaters (12%) to enhance comfort levels.

Interestingly, lack of privacy was the top challenge addressed, with hedges, fences, walls and garden awnings available solutions. Too much sun was also recognised as an issue by 50 participants – another problem Roché can help with.
